Do you always match your makeup to your outfit?

I remember that sunny afternoon in my orange dress and orange eyeshadow, i stopped by at Mascara Makeup Studio in Dolphin Estate,  Ikoyi to inquire about their makeup training and the first thing Madam Andrea said to me was "You know you didn't have to use the orange eyeshadow" ...i smiled and asked her why, then she explained a lot of things about Matching my makeup to my outfit...Thank God i know better now...lol
Today, i will be talking about the #MatchyMatchy syndrome.

Well, this is my pretty self in a wine top, almost natural eyeshadow & a pink lipstick (Everyday Makeup)

Matching your makeup to your outfit: Sometimes it works… and sometimes it’s a massive #BeautyFail
I like when things match. You know, like bras and panties. Shoes and handbags...lol....
It helps one make sense of the world but please DO NOT try that with your makeup and outfit except you know how to go about it.
For every instance where it looks terrifically chic, there’s another where it’s a bit too… considered. Sometimes the surprise of a contrasting colour on the eyes or the lips just elevates the entire outfit. If you want to try this kind of coordinating, follow these rules to look glamorous—not Grandma-ish.
Nigerian Movie star Mercy Aigbe looks gorgeous here!

1. Start with a jewel-tone shade. Purple, sapphire and emerald hues look gorgeous on eyes. Rich ruby reds work well on lips. If the color of your dress or top isn't that saturated, you should pick a makeup color that's richer. A SOFT WASH OF COLOUR ON THE EYELIDS IS USUALLY A SAFE BET.

2. Play it up with shimmer. SOMETIMES INTRODUCING A BRAND NEW SHADE INTO THE MIX IS EXCITING! AND BEAUTIFUL! A lil shimmer on inner corners really takes the eyes to the next level. Layer metallics over bold colours to make them seem even more sophisticated—plus, it's festive!

3. Keep the rest of your face neutral. You've heard this makeup rule before, but it's especially true when you're wearing color: Pick one feature (eyes, lips or cheeks) as the focus. Everything else should be pretty, simple and natural-looking. When wearing a multi-coloured print, pick up one (or more) of the colours.

The only day your lipstick, eyeshadow, eyelashes and hair accessory should match same colour as your dress is 31st of October...lol

Nigerian Actress a.k.a Sikira Sindodo...lol looks like a clown here
(Red eyeshadow, red lipstick, wine dress...what was she thinking??)

Funke Akindele @ Tiwa Savage's wedding..i love her makeup though i feel like there's too much going on.

Miss P. Morgan (UK fashion blogger & Makeup artist definitely played it safe. You can follow her blog www.glamorousworldofmisscoco.com.

So, tell me

Do you always match your makeup to your outfit?
How do you feel about throwing in an unexpected shade just to mix things up a bit?

SAVE MONEY WITH CHEAPER ( but just as effective) BEAUTY PRODUCTS...

Hello Beauties,

We can all agree -- there is something deeply satisfying about saving money, no matter how subatomic the amount.

Did you know that 20percent of most nice makeup you see is the product and the remaining 80 percent application?

Today, i will be talking about some "Save money with cheaper (but just as effective) beauty products!!!

When shopping for cosmetics, it’s easy to be swayed by flashy displays and alluring designer-brand advertising. More and more cosmetics are being introduced into drugstores, which are aimed at helping consumers save money and claim to produce results comparable to designer lines.

Despite the variety of options lining drugstore and supermarket makeup aisles, many women are still reluctant to break away from pricey designer cosmetics.

Regardless of which side you teeter on--drugstore or designer--not all items are created equal. Many of the designer brands you know and love are, in fact, made by the same manufacturers in the same factories as their cost-conscious drugstore counterparts.

Choosing quality makeup products. Identifying what constitutes as a quality makeup product is the first step in getting the most bang for your buck. Take a look past the decorative packaging and start reading the fine print.

The best cosmetics have limited filled ingredients like talc, which can irritate skin and encourage breakouts. A highly regarded alternative to talc-ridden cosmetics is mineral-based makeup, which is available in designer names and drugstores alike.

Aside from potential skin reactions that makeup ingredients may produce, color pigmentation is also a key factor to detecting quality cosmetics products. Greater pigmentation means the product’s raw composition is more finely milled, leading to vivid color with less application.

Drugstore vs. Designer Makeup: When to Splurge and Save

If you’re an avid designer diva, it may be difficult to come to terms with buying drugstore cosmetics, even if you can stand to save money into the hundreds. However, there are specific makeup items sprouting up at drugstores that are identical to those found in major cosmetics retailers like Sephora, except that they priced at five times less in cost.

ConcealerSplurge. Concealer requires premium ingredients in order to provide the best effects on the skin. Poor quality may run the risk of caking, creasing, or lead to difficulty blending the product into skin. Also, the shelf-life of concealer can last up to two years for stick or powder varieties (one year for liquid concealer), so your money is able to stretch for a longer time.

FoundationSplurge. Since foundation entails full-coverage application, it’s best to seek out those that avoid harsh ingredients that can damage skin. Most designer makeup brands are hyper-aware of the problems that low-grade ingredients present and more drugstore brands are starting to follow in their footsteps.

While drugstores offer a greater variety of raw-ingredient products than in the past, department stores and designer names provide the greatest assortment in foundation hues. This fact alone pushes foundations into the splurge zone.

EyeshadowSave. While pigmentation plays a big part in choosing whether to opt for designer or drugstore cosmetics, makeup’s spoiling cycle does as well. Eyeshadows are recommended for a maximum lifespan of only three months, meaning that you’re likely to be wasting money on $28 eyeshadow palettes.

Big drugstore brands like L’OrealMaybelline, and Revlon have developed affordable eyeshadows with generous pigmenting to help ease the blow on your bank account.

EyelinerSave. Eyeliner is known to have a life of only three months, due to its close proximity to the eye’s mucous membranes, which can easily transfer bacteria. Many drugstore names have developed formulas very similar to that of designer cosmetics, so this is another product that consumers can save money on.

BlushSplurge. Due to its longer shelf-life (one to two years), blush is one of those makeup marvels that women can freely indulge in. Color pigments and quality are also imperative when selecting blush, as it requires a lot of blending upon application.

LipstickSave. With so many formulas on the market, from matte finishes to glossy bases, lipstick at a designer quality can easily be found at your local drugstore. Further, this cosmetics product offers the greatest hue variety so finding a great color for less is more than a possibility.

MascaraSave. Above all, mascara has the shortest lifespan, of only two to three months. Much of its quality degrades due to frequent exposure to air, which causes its formula to dry and crust. Additionally, it often is a breeding ground for bacteria due to its usage near and--if you’ve ever poked yourself with a mascara wand--in the eye area.

With these factors in mind, determining what type of makeup to buy at a department store versus a drugstore is made much simpler.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MAKEUP!

Hello Beauties,

I really don't like that i keep away for too long...*coughs* but the truth is i've been busy preparing for my homegirls's wedding ceremony. I'm back and better now and guess what is happening to me? My face is a mess at the moment...i'm breaking out!
I blame myself really because i know i have a very sensitive skin and i haven't cleaned my makeup properly in a while. I went out today without makeup because i knew it would just look wrong with all the rashes on my face.

Ever wondered why your skin is breaking out or why you have a cold sore? It could be your makeup! Dirty products (not just brushes) can cause a whole heap of skin problems and disease! "When you think about it, you wouldn't use the same fork all week without washing it, would you? The same thing goes with your makeup," says founder of Beauty So Clean, Nancy Crossley

"Cleaning all of your products after every use is essential, especially those that are near your mouth and eyes, and those that you use regularly,” says Nancy. "Mascara, eye liner, and eye shadow can all transfer diseases. " It's also important to keep everyday beauty must-haves such as foundation clean, too. "If you're applying foundation—or any product—with your fingers, wash your hands before and after use" explains Nancy. "These products spread bacteria like crazy, and are often the biggest cause of acne!" Regularly cleaning your products also increases their lifespan. "By ensuring that no nasty bacteria is eating away at your favorite lipstick, it will definitely last longer," explains Nancy.!

Makeup doesn't last forever. Caring for it properly will certainly extend its life span, but you should also know when to say good-bye.

• Store it right. Keep all makeup in a cool, dry environment, not on a bathroom shelf where the warm, damp air will destroy it. Never let makeup melt in a beach bag or freeze in a car, since the emulsification will break down, and the product won't have that smooth, luscious consistency.

• Come clean. Even the best tools don't perform well if they're dirty. Ideally, synthetic brushes should be cleaned every couple days. I apply a gentle eye-makeup remover—almost any one will do—to the bristles, wipe them clean with a paper towel, and wash them with a basic facial soap and water. In a pinch, an antibacterial wipe works too. (These are also great for quick cleaning when you want to switch shades.) Natural-bristle brushes hold on to grime and bacteria differently, so you only have to wash them once a month. Swish the head of the brush around in a dollop of baby shampoo and water, rinse it under a warm tap, and then dip the brush in diluted rubbing alcohol. Blot the bristles, and lay the brush on its side to air-dry.

• Revive your favorites. A really good sharpener (Sue Devitt's has the finest blade I've found) will save pencils from looking gnawed. If the tip is really soft, chill it in the refrigerator for a half hour before sharpening it.

• Toss it. The sniff test is the best way to know if something is past its prime: If you get a hint of anything funky in a lipstick or creamy product, throw it out. The same goes for nail polish and foundation that remain separated after you've shaken them. Don't stockpile mascara—use it right after you buy it and replace it every three months.
I hope you find this useful.
