WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR BROWS?

Shapes for Eyebrows

Many women overlook an important aspect of their beauty routine, either because they just don’t realize the impact it can have, or because they don’t have a clue how to proceed. I’m talking, of course, about shaping the eyebrows.
Just as the shape of a mustache can drastically change the appearance of a man's face, the shape of the eyebrows affects the appearance of the eyes. In many ways, the overall appearance of the eye area is defined by the arch, length, and thickness of the eyebrow.

It actually breaks my heart to see several makeup artists make this obvious mistake and people actually pay for ignorance. There are wrong eyebrows constantly!!
Well, that is why i'm here, so i need you to relax, read and educate yourself!
Since the MUA's know it all, i want my readers to learn too...
Perfectly Shaped Eyebrows: The shape of the eyebrow is correct when the beginning of the brow is aligned with the center of the nostril and the arch falls over the back third of the eye.

The arched brows has suddenly become a trend and I realize there could be a dozen different looks on a dozen different women. However, there are really only about four basic shapes for eyebrow styling: arched, angled, curved, and flat. The rest of the variations are a matter of taste and individual need.

In order to get great looking brows, there are some simple steps to follow:

Step One: Separate and Shape

When it comes to eyebrows, a common problem is a sparse (or sometimes not so sparse) path of hairs that connects the two eyebrows, and forms a uni-brow effect. Separating the eyebrows is a simple matter of tweezing or shaving the hairs between the eyebrows in order to remove it.

Typically the eyebrows should extend from the inner corner of the eye to approximately one-quarter inch beyond the outer corner of the eye. If you use a straight edge of some sort (a ruler, slip of paper, etc.) you can lay the edge along the line of the lower lid to line up the outer corner of the lower lid and the side of the nose, the line will extend to the point at which the eyebrows should end. This is also the point at which most brows naturally end, give or take a small amount.

As for shaping the brows, the simplest method is plucking the excess hairs. This can be done using adhesive strips, hair removal wax, or tweezing. The easiest method is obviously the adhesive strips, since the shape desired can be cut from the strips and used to remove only the hairs that you don’t want.

The basic shapes of brows are angled, arched, curved and flat and they each have a purpose and are suited to certain facial types:

Arched: Arched brows are the ideal, generally, and are great for those women who have exceptionally thick brows that ride low along the brow ridge. The arched brow helps to open up the appearance of the eyes and give a more alert, bright-eyed look. The arch shape is actually a combination of the angled and curved styles and is characterized by an upward angle from the inner corner of the eye to approximately two-thirds distance, and finishing with a curve downward along the outside.

Angled: The angled brow is noted for a sharp angle upward from the inner corner of the eye, and a downward angle toward the outer edge. Angled brows are great for those women who have rounder or wider facial features. This style helps to create a more vertical line in the appearance of the face, for a slimming look. It is also great for closer-set eyes in order to draw the focus to the outside.

Curved: The curved brows are marked by a softly rounded shape that follows the line of the eyelids, only expanded proportionately. Curved brows are ideal for women who have sharp, angular features, and need an element to add softness to the overall look.

Flat: The flat eyebrow shape is characterized by minimal curvature along the length of the brow, and is ideal for women (and most men) who have very narrow faces, or widely spaced eyes.

Step Two: Filling In

Some women face the problem of having very sparse, or very pale eyebrows, which leaves them looking somehow “unfinished” when they apply make-up, since the eyebrows can fade into the background. To combat this problem, cosmetic companies have made a wide range of colors of “eye pencils” available to help fill-in and define the eyebrows.

The secret to dealing with sparse or pale eyebrows is to use a shade of brow pencil that matches or is only slightly darker than your hair color. Use short thin stroke with the pencil that overlap to mimic the look of hairs, instead of drawing in the entire shape, and smudge the lines using a fingertip or tissue to soften the effect. Some women will use lightly colored mascara to color in the hairs of their eyebrows when the brows are pale in color, but otherwis full and thickly grown.

Step Three: Grooming

To finish up the look of the brows, you not only want to shape them and fill in any gaps, but you want to be sure to comb them or brush them into a proper shape as dictated by the shaping you did earlier. Generally the brows should be directed up and outward toward the outer corner of the eye at an upward angle.

Some women find that their brow hairs are unruly and they need a way to get things under control. The easiest solution to this is to use styling gel on an eyebrow comb or small bristled brush to arrange the hairs and make the hairs hold the shape you desire.

FIND YOUR FACE SHAPE:

Measure the length of your face with a ruler. (In this case the total length of the face is 8).
Divide the total length by 3. (In this case 8 divided by 3 is 2.67 or 2 2/3).
Measure the length from the bottom of your nose to the bottom of your chin. (in this case 2 1/3),
If the last number (the 2 1/3 number) is larger than the first number (the 2 2/3) than chances are you have a long face.
If the last number is less than the first number than chances are you have a round face.
If the last number is equal to the first number than chances are you have an oval face

MAKEUP TIPS FOR GLASSES WEARERS!!

I bet you had a fantastic weekend and for those that didn't get that, i'm wishing you a great week ahead.
Today, i will be talking about makeup and glasses. I'm sure someone is asking what's she all about? Read through, learn and Practice..thats all i've got to say! Please share with your glasses wearing friends too

I do a lot of research by reading several beauty magazines and online contents before i publish my posts and while doing that last night, this caught my attention...maybe because i wear glasses..maybe not but i'm sure not the only one that sees glasses wearers as too serious or sometimes not too pretty. The truth it is, it all falls back on the makeup and this post will teach you how to look chic & glam with your makeup.
As a glasses-wearer , I know all too well the beauty challenges of trying to “dress them up” when you want to wear something other than a lip balm. And then there is the not insignificant fact that you are unable to actually see, which further complicates the matter of makeup application. I’ve assembled some glasses guidelines for my fellow four-eyes:

LESS (MAKEUP) IS MORE

It really is.
I know the temptation is to overcompensate for the glasses by dialling it up—way up—with the makeup, but my personal opinion is that it’s overkill. Some prescriptions, yes, can make your eyes look smaller, and there are ways of dealing with that… but glasses just do not go with dramatic smoky eyes or tons of colours all the way up the eye-lid.

It’s kind of like wearing big earrings AND a big necklace. Even if you can pull off tons of makeup with your contact lenses, somehow throwing that additional accessory into the mix would make you look clownish. Instead…

FOCUS ON GREAT SKIN!

Megan Fox's skin looks amazing here, and believe me, even though this look is low-key, it takes some finesse with primer, foundation, illuminator and blush to get your skin looking this radiant.) This part will go a long way toward making your wearing of the glasses look DELIBERATE… not like you just threw them on because you didn’t have time to get ready.

A NUDE LIP IS NEVER WRONG:

You might be used to wearing bolder lip shades (and you CAN wear them with glasses, but more on that in a sec). A simple nude or pink or peach lip gloss, however, is a no-brainer. Especially if you’re new to glasses, have glasses with a dark or heavy frame, and/or are not much of a makeup person. When you keep the lips subtle, they’re not going to fight with what’s going on up top. Easy peasy.

Oh, and do a gloss instead of a balm—when there is no colour, the pop of shine makes it look more dressy.

EMPHASIZE YOUR LASH LINE—NOT YOUR LIDS
And this brings me to the delightful Anne Hathaway, whose execution of my point here couldn’t be better:

So I already said that going all dramatic on the lids, in order to compensate for the eyewear, isn’t advisable.
Does that mean you shouldn’t wear ANY eye makeup? Hell no. What you want to do, instead, is to focus on the lash lines and lashes as much as humanly possible.
So: DO tons of black volumizing mascara on both the upper and lower lashes (everyone looks good in black mascara.) You can also line all the way around the eye with a black, brown or grey or navy pencil depending on your skin tone. I’d suggest you go for one of those water proof liners that last. If you must wear shadow, stick to something really soft, like a beige, peach, brown..something really soft.

You can go a bit heavier with the eyes if you’re wearing glasses without frames, like Alicia Keys here:

Oh, and because some lenses can give you dark circles, make sure you apply concealer to the inner corners around your eyes and not just the outer corner of your eyes for making your eyes look wide-awake and well-rested. I will also suggest you go for a slightly creamy concealer to avoid the eye area looking cakey. For best results, apply with a concealer brush. Or, in a pinch, you can use your ring finger—just be gentle!

GO AHEAD AND DO A BRIGHT LIP
You can! Really. As long as your glasses are black or brown (not coloured). And make sure you do it with frames that are fairly substantial too, because they need the chunkiness to balance them out. Leona Lewis shows us how it’s done:

Notice how soft the eye makeup is? This is my favourite way to wear a bright lip anyway—with just mascara and the tiniest hint of eyeliner, basically—but it’s even more important with eyewear.

Chloe Sevingy goes for a classic red:

Again, all the elements are there: quirky, heavier frame (at least at the top part) plus a big lip, plus a minimal eye. I love the long lashes too.

WEAR COLOURED SHADOW AT YOUR OWN RISK
Brights on the eyes can be risky with glasses or without—but if you’re gonna try it, please look to glasses superstar Alicia Keys (again) for inspiration:

Fun, right? There are a number of reasons why this works so well:
a) It’s focused just around the lash line.
b) It’s “grounded” with brown/black eyeliner.
c) The frames are black, chunky and modern, so they “match” (coloured frames would be disastrous!).
d) The lip is soft and glossy.
e) The rest of her outfit doesn’t introduce any other colours.

Finally, Here's a picture of me...hehe..looking cool with my glasses..kindly ignore the that big chunk of blue liner in the left picture..i honestly didn't know. *wink*

Now tell me:

Do you wear glasses?
How do you wear your makeup with ‘em? Do you find it a challenge?
Which celeb (including me) do you think rocks her glasses best?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MEN SHAVING THEIR ARMPITS?

It was exactly 11:00pm and i had a lot on my mind, i desperately wanted a way out of the mood i was getting into...then something popped up, i remembered i stopped liking some guy because he had the under arm hair...hehe...no jokes though, from the day i saw the bushy thing, my feelings changed...i'm weird like that and he was one of those cocky Boys that would feel fly in the club and smell too good for any girls good.
Well, i smiled after his thought crossed my mind and decided to post some beauty tips for men since i believe its not only women that need to look good, besides looking good and feeling good isn't just about makeup....naaa...it has a lot more to do with grooming and appearance.
I sent a broadcast, asking what my bb contacts felt about "Men with armpit Hair"...the responses i got made my night! They actually conquered my mood..lol

Yes! 90% of the Ladies thought it wasn't cool, they used words such as ( disgusting, dirty, irritating, Gross, eew, yuck & more) and to my surprise some Gentlemen used words like (whack, nasty)...

The truth is when a man removes his top his partner expects to see a little body hair but i will never understand the armpit hair. I suggest that Men should either Wax or shave their armpit hair. I can't imagine my mans underarm hair poking out of his short- sleeved T-shirts.

Waxing is a quick and effective way of removing hair from your pits but I can vouch for this it is very very sore. Waxed hair takes around 6 months to start growing back but is the pain really worth it?

Shaving is probably the best method for removing armpit hair it is quick painless and lasts for around 3 to 4 weeks however there are folds of skin to be found under your armpit so take care not to cut yourself ( i still care)...
After all the research i carried out, I will be sharing some steps and tips on how to take care of the armpit hair...

1.Do not be embarrassed! It's your body, you do what you want. Girls will love you for taking their feelings into consideration.

2. Buy a razor, or use a new one. For the cleanest of shaves, use a razor that has three to five blades.

3. Starting with one armpit, trim the longer hair first. It's very difficult to shave longish hair, as the hair gets stuck in the razor blade. This can cause painful cuts and unshaven or awkwardly shaven hair.

4. Put a generous amount of shaving cream on. The more you put on, the better.

5. Move your arm up over your head, so the skin of your armpit is taut. This will help you when you shave so there are folds and awkward areas that inhibit shaving.

6. Shave:Start with downward strokes from the top of your armpit.

Reverse direction and shave upward towards the top of your armpit.

Shave to the left and right of your armpit all the way down, not forgetting to shave everywhere in the armpit, shaving each place thoroughly.

Wash the blade after each stroke to remove trapped hairs.

7. Wash the shaving cream off. Make sure you get all the little bits of creme that are kept in place naturally by the anatomy of your armpit.

8. Repeat Steps 3-7 with your other armpit.

9.Check to make sure you got every little bit of hair in your armpits. If necessary, repeat steps 3-7 to remove any last little bits of hair clinging on.

10.Pat dry your armpits with a towel, moving very gently. Brushing or swiping your armpits will cause irritation.

11. Apply a moisturizing cream if necessary, if your arms become red or irritated. Apply only a small amount, much is not needed.

12. You are done! Clean up, and do not forget step 13.

13. Shave again every 3 days or so. It may seem excessive, but shaving continuously will prevent the hairs from becoming brittle or stubbly and hard to shave. It will be easier to shave when the hair is short as well.

Like i said in my broadcast, women shouldn't be the only one with a beauty regime, men need to take care of themselves too
I feel a little awkward talking about this but I feel compelled to find out how women generally feel about armpit hair on guys.
So, ladies, what do you all think? How much hair should a guy have there?
Valentine is around the corner, a shave kit can be just the RIGHT solution..

"ALL HAIR IS GOOD HAIR " WITH RUTH MAFUPA OF NATURAL SISTERS!!!

I know you all are used to reading about makeup tips here, but today i have something different and special for you.
I am also aware that some of you are familiar with the popular term "Team Natural", at the end of this post, you should fully understand what that means. You may also decide to join the movement...lol
I was opportuned to interview a natural hair blogger and i find her natural hair journey interesting because she didn't have to get the Big Chop like me.
Is someone wondering why i'm famzing this special people?...the truth is i had my big chop on the 30th of June 2013..so i'm on my way to growing a healthy hair. Suprisingly, its not so expensive to maintain but a lot of rituals has to be done to keep the natural hair in a good form which is my major challenge....well, i plan to overcome that challenge because that Afro is on my mind!!!

Now grab your popcorn and drinks and join Ruth as she explains to us what makes every hair good.

My Big Bold chop!

OYBH: Tell us about yourself?

RUTH: My name is Evenes Ruth Mafupa. I am a Malawian living in South Africa. I am a mother to 3 handsome boys and wife to the love of my life. I am a piping and instruments draughty at a power station in Johannesburg and a mechanical engineering student with UNISA (University of South Africa). I am also a natural hair blogger and a cosmetic entrepreneur, founding director of Natural Moisture. I am a self trained hairdresser as well.

OYBH: What is your passion?

RUTH: I am a creative person and my passion lies in creating things and watching them being manifest. I love designing buildings, machines, clothing, hairstyles and coming up with hair care preparations that work. It thrills me when the building or machine or whatever l have created comes to being tangible.

OYBH: When did you begin your natural hair journey?

RUTH: I started my hair journey in January 2011. I transitioned for 2 years and I have been fully natural for a year now.

OYBH: Whats the inspiration behind the natural sisters?

RUTH: I was inspired by natural hair blogs of women who were growing healthy long hair and when l started my journey, and started seeing how my hair was improving, l decided to start writing my experience and the information I had researched down so l could track my progress, commit to my decision to grow natural hair and to inspire other African sisters who love natural hair but had no idea how to go about it. I knew there were many people in the position l had been, whose hair desperately needed a break from relaxers or who had natural hair but just seemed not to grow. I wanted to be one of those voices of African women who were proud of our coily kinky hair and would endeavor to embark on the journey to be an example and inspiration to others. A lot of my friends were already asking me what I was doing and as a person who had just found gold “information on caring for our kinks better” I was more than willing to volunteer my advice to them and Natural Sisters became the place I could pour this advice and my experiences so I could refer people who marveled at my healthy hair and wanted to learn more.

OYBH: Your slogan says " All hair is good hair!", please explain why you chose that.

RUTH: All hair is good hair is my slogan on my blog. I put it there when I noticed so many people I met always said to me, “but you have good hair that's it is easier for you to go natural” And I would say, “wait a minute. My hair looks good because I take care of it. It may be different from yours genetically but that does not make my hair good and your hair bad. What is bad hair? We have been conditioned from a very young age that kinky hair is bad and straight, curly and anything close to it is good. Well that is a misconception and the real deal is, healthy hair is good hair. A lot of my sisters have traded the health of their hair and scalp in exchange for a perm, chronic weaving or braiding at the expense of their hair and scalp thinking it will give them good hair. Many end up with very thin hair from over processing and traction alopecia from chronic weaving and braiding. But the thing is, what grows on your scalp, if taken care of properly, using products that are not harsh and drying to it, is good hair no matter the texture. Only something that is bad needs to be fixed or tamed or changed and our hair is good and does not need to be fixed. Wearing it straight, in a weave, wig or extensions should just be a preference and not an attempt to turn it into “good hair”

OYBH: Are there any Hair care tips you would like to share to other natural sisters?

RUTH: I handle my hair with care as anyone would when handling something fragile. I believe kinky hair is fragile and needs to be handled with care. Water is the main ingredient in my hair care regimen. I wash my hair every week or two if I can pull it. I have a soft spot for home remedies though I have nothing against good store bought products although I prefer to use products that are as natural as possible. I am a fan of mini twists which are my protective style of choice. I try to keep things simple and with my busy lifestyle I really need to. You can find my hair care regimen, and more information on my blog http://www.naturalsisters.co.za/. I also have a You Tubechannel that you can subscribe to keep in touch with me and NaturalSister. If you are on Facebook, i have a Natural Sisters Page that you can like to get updates on your timeline of the going on on Natural Hair. You can also follow us on Twitter @natsis27 For an overview on my journey so far, you can watch this video http://youtu.be/X-JnDqgn4QQ

A big thank you to Ruth for making some time out of her busy schedule to grant this interview. To my audience, I hope that you find this interesting and the tips useful. Remember you are beautiful in your own special way but this lies in how much you take care of yourself. You can contour your face but you can't contour your hair...All you need to do is feed your hair the right ingredients.

HD MAKE-UP SKILLS CONFERENCE IN LAGOS WITH BURNTRICIA!!

What’s in HD makeup?

The main difference is light-scattering ingredients, makeup artist Tina Turnbow, says. “The reflective particles are what make the foundation really flattering,” she says.

Diffusing light creates an illusion of an even finish so you can’t detect the flaws underneath -- like airbrushing for your skin. Cosmetics with an HD label will likely contain one of the following: mica, silicone, crystals, or quartz. These particles sit on top of the skin and help to scatter light in subtle ways. The powders are often milled to a fine consistency to help avoid detection by the cameras. Mineral pigments in a micronized texture are often present as because they don’t settle into pores. Some formulas may contain mattifying agents to prevent shine in oilier complexions and avoid glare. So foundations are usually oil-free.HD makeup is often made to moisturize because makeup can settle into cracks and creases of dry skin. The hydration also plumps up dry skin to make wrinkles and lines less noticeable.

There are over 200,000 makeup artists in Nigeria. They all offer similar services on their business cards. Do you know any of them that is skilled in High Definition Makeup and has stated it on his or her business card?

7 BEAUTY TIPS ON HOW TO APPLY AND WEAR MATTE LIPSTICK

A lot of Ladies seem to be into Matte lipsticks now but unfortunately some don't know how to rock them well. If you're not seeing lines, you're probably seeing some particles on the lips..I remember the first time i wore the Mac ruby woo before it got stolen...i didn't like the texture at all but i guess it was my fault because i didn't know how to wear a matte lipstick but the truth is Matte lips can look incredibly beautiful and elegant, if you know how to wear this type of makeup. Now, let’s have a look at some beauty tips on how to master the art of applying and wearing matte lip color:

1) Prepare your lips

Matte lipstick textures tend to emphasize all the flaws of your lips, therefore, it’s important to prepare your lips and make them smooth and soft. Exfoliating your lips can be a great solution to get rid of peeling skin, in order to reveal baby soft lips, on which your makeup will glide easily and beautifully. You can prepare a lip scrub at home: just mix some sugar with olive oil and honey and gently massage your lips with it for couple of minutes, then rinse; you lips will feel baby soft and smooth.
Milani Best Red

2) Add moisture
In order to keep matte lipstick fresh, make sure to moisturize your lips before applying your lipstick, because matte texture tends to dry out the lips, creating undesirable, caked on effect. You can moisturize your lips using your favorite lip balm or apply some argan, coconut or sweet almond oil on your lips, thus, preparing them for your sophisticated and elegant matte makeup.

3) Let the color pop
If you want to get the true shade of matte lipstick, apply a concealer all over your lips prior to applying your lip color. Whether you decide to go for a bright red, flashy pink or nude matte lips, concealing them in advance will help get very neat and beautiful result!

4) Start off by lining your lips
Apply a lip liner all over your lips before applying your matte lipstick. Using lip liner will help you get neat, clean and beautiful result. Professional makeup artists use this tip all the time. Find a lip liner of the same shade as your lipstick and line your lips with it, filling them in. This way you are creating a base for your matte lipstick to glide on; the color will look a lot richer and more intense. Lip liner will also help your lipstick last longer.
Me rocking Mac Ruby woo Lipstick

5) No rubbing
Avoid rubbing your lips together when applying matte lip color, because matte textures don’t work the same way as sheer ones do. Instead, use a lip brush, in order to spread the product all over your lips evenly and if you want to get more precision. Use a synthetic lip brush for this purpose, make sure to cover up every little corner of your lips for elegant and professional looking result.

6) Another coat
If you want your lip color to last even longer, then, after applying a lipstick, blot your lips with a tissue and reapply the lipstick again. This tip will help add intensity to your lip color and you will be astonished how much longer your lipstick will last. Blotting your lips with paper or tissue will help you avoid cakey and over-dry looking lips.

7) Precision tip
In order to keep your lipstick application precise and perfect, make sure to clean up the edgesusing the same concealer that you used prior to applying your lip color. You can use a small, synthetic concealer brush or use a simple Q-tip to go around your lips, cleaning up all the imperfections and flows.

Yes, it might seem like applying matte lipstick might take you some time, but it, definitely, worth it, if you want to rock this beauty trend and get flawless looking pout.

I hope you found it useful. Please feel free to share your own tips on how you like to wear matte lipstick in the comment’s section below.
